FAQ

Frequently asked questions — Compaction

Plate, rammer or roller: which one do I need?

Rammer for narrow trenches and next to pipe; vibratory plate for bases, backfill and open-area lifts; roller for embankment, sub-base and asphalt. A typical job uses all three at different stages.

What compaction equipment fits in a narrow trench?

The rammer: it's built to compact at trench width and next to pipe without damaging it. In wider trenches a compact plate also fits.

Do you rent asphalt rollers?

Yes, vibratory rollers up to a 4.2-tonne double drum — the line road projects use for base and asphalt mat.
